Volunteer

To help run weekly competitions as smoothly as possible all families will be required to select a roster duty that suits their circumstances. Hamersley Little Athletics Centre encourages families to choose a roster where you already have skills and experience.

 Parent Roster Information

General Information about Hamersley Centre’s Saturday Rosters

The Hamersley Little Athletics competition runs over 14 competition Saturdays with a break prior to Christmas, recommencing early to mid January. Please be aware that you could easily spend at least two hours every fortnight or at least four hours every three to five times per season on competition days at Charles Riley Reserve while your child competes. The frequency of the roster depends on the type of role selected. For a list of the various roster roles, please go to Hamersley Centre’s  Parent Roster Positions tab.

Parents are also expected to help out at many of the activities as a volunteer; raking the sand pit, returning a javelin, measuring a jump, and this will depend on the age group and the number of parents available.

It is a requirement of registering your athlete that every parent commits to a reasonable number of hours per season on a Saturday morning. The roster commitment is approximately 10-20 hours per season depending on the nature of the roster chosen. Some rosters are a little more demanding, but not beyond most people’s ability, and a few even require some skill development, however, even these are inherently rewarding and training is offered. All rostered parents will need to sign-in at the Roster Tent at least 10 minutes prior to their allocated roster start time and collect their equipment (officials vest, two-way radio, file and recording sheet).

Can I Swap my Roster?

Saturdays ONLY run when rosters are attended to. It is the parents’ responsibility to take note of dates for their rostered duty – NO reminder emails will be sent. Your roster is available by using your ResultsHQ login.

We understand that sometimes you may not be able to attend competition and fulfill your roster commitment. For this reason, Hamersley uses “Team App” which you can download and post a chat message in your roster group for someone to swap with you. Parents must swap their rosters with someone who undertakes the same type of roster, just on a different day to you.

If a roster is missed and there has been no prior effort to change/swap this roster, your club will be contacted and you will be asked to explain your absence. Your child may not be able to continue to compete if your rostered duties are not met.

North Beach Little Athletics Club Commitments

Each club within the centre has an opportunity to fundraise through barbeque and canteen sales. On these Saturdays we welcome volunteers to assist in running the canteen and sausage sizzles. More details will be made available closer to the time.

Volunteer Training and Accreditation

Officials Accreditation

It is a requirement that all Key Officials and Starters will need to have the Level 1 Officials Accreditation completed for their rostered event BEFORE the first week of competition.  This is an open book, multiple choice, on-line course – more details can be found under the “Coaching & Officials Education” tab.

The LAWA Rules of Competition is a great source of information and can be found here.

Practical Officials’ Training

Each season we hold two training sessions usually about one to two weeks prior to the first competition day. These training sessions provide parents with practical skills and guidance on how to officiate at a Little Athletics competition. The training sessions are held at Charles Riley Reserve after working hours. These sessions are for all Starters/Check Starters, Timing Gates Controllers/Recorders, Key Officials on sites i.e. High Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Turbo Javelin, Javelin, Long Jump and Triple Jump. It is essential that one of these two sessions is attended.
